Australia's acclaimed acrobatic ensemble Circa collaborates with pianist Vitaly Starikov to create a gravity-defying interpretation of Bach's The Art of Fugue. The performance fuses intricate choreography, balancing acts, and musical brilliance under the direction of Yaron Lifschitz, translating Bach's complex contrapuntal structures into astonishing physical feats.

Lineup

CIRCA is an evolving portrait of the present moment, created by artists. Together, these works trace the ideas, tensions and possibilities shaping life in the 21st century. Presented across public space, publishing, moving image and live experiences, they form part of the #CIRCAECONOMY, a circular model where one commission creates the conditions for the next.

  • Pianist Vitaly Starikov has found distinction with “raw, deeply felt, and powerful” (La Scena) performances, while having an unassuming onstage presence and a “willingness less to play at the audience than to draw [them] into musical intimacies”(Dallas Morning News). His bold approach won him silver at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the admiration of fans around the globe.

  • Yaron Lifschitz makes shows. Big ones, small ones, and ones that defy easy categorisation. More than 80 productions have toured across six continents and played to over two million people picking up a shelf’s worth of awards including six Helpmanns, The ISPA Distinguished Artist Award and the Australia Council Theatre Award.
