Embracing Ornament: A Conversation with Amir H. Fallah and Charlene Liu
A curated conversation between artists Amir H. Fallah and Charlene Liu, moderated by Nina Bozicnik, Senior Curator at the Henry Art Gallery. The discussion explores how both artists use pattern, ornament, and decorative aesthetics to examine cultural hybridity and challenge cultural hierarchies through their diasporic perspectives.

Lineup

  • Amir H. Fallah received his BFA in Fine Art & Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art and his MFA in painting at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions across the United States and abroad.

  • Born in Taiwan and raised in the American Midwest, Charlene Liu is an artist based in Oregon. Liu’s paintings, prints, and mixed media installations weave together family histories, cultural references, and decorative patterns to explore memory, heritage, and identity.
