There is a tender proposition behind composer, bandleader, and saxophonist Kamasi Washington’s fifth studio album, Fearless Movement: we’re all born elastic, and if you don’t use it you lose it. Bartees Leon Cox Jr. (born 1989), known professionally as Bartees Strange, is an English-born American musician. Strange was born in Ipswich, England, raised in Mustang, Oklahoma, and is based in Baltimore, Maryland.
In the summer of 2020, Aaron Benson (drums, percussion, guitar) and his wife Emily began hosting weekly bonfires at their home. Keyboardist Kim West and her husband Ryan Devlin (bass and guitar) were in regular attendance, along with a handful of neighbors and friends. It was the era of lockdown and social distancing, and the Benson bonfires became a sanctuary of connection.
