Norwescon brings together sci-fi and fantasy fans for a sprawling convention featuring panels, gaming, vendors, and performances—this year with writer-illustrator Ursula Vernon (Hugo Award winner behind the webcomic Digger) and illustrator Geneva Bowers (known for Afrofuturist character design). Happening April 2nd at the DoubleTree by Hilton near Sea-Tac, expect the usual convention mix of tabletop games, film screenings, dances, and a masquerade contest, plus laser tag and nerf battles if you want to actually move around.

She is best known for her award-winning webcomic Digger, children's series Dragonbreath and Hamster Princess, and adult novels published under the pseudonym T. Kingfisher.

  • Geneva Bowers

    Geneva Bowers is a Hugo Award-winning self-taught illustrator specializing in Black fantasy, whimsical sci-fi, magic realism, and Afrofuturist character design. Based in Chicago with Appalachian roots, she creates diverse POC representation in fantasy and science fiction, with notable works including the webcomic HoverGirls and illustrated children's books like Beyoncé: Shine Your Light and Curls.
