  David Howell Evans, known as The Edge, is an Irish and British musician born in 1961 who serves as the lead guitarist, keyboardist, and backing vocalist of the rock band U2. Renowned for his distinctive guitar style featuring chiming timbres, rhythmic delay, and extensive use of effects, The Edge has been a core member of U2 since its inception in 1976 and has won 22 Grammy Awards.
