A screening of the half-hour film 'Unrecognized: The Duwamish Tribe' about the tribe's struggle for recognition, followed by a conversation with filmmaker BJ Bullert and Duwamish Tribe Council Member Ken Workman at MOHAI.

Lineup

  • B. J. Bullert is a communication scholar and a documentary filmmaker. Her current intellectual interests focus broadly on making media for social change. Her intellectual moorings rest in the qualitative sociology of Howard S. Becker and the historian Howard Zinn.

  • Ken Workman is a member of the Duwamish Tribe and a fifth-generation great-grandson of Chief Seattle. A musician and cultural advocate based in Seattle, he performs in rock and roots genres and is known for his work preserving and sharing the Lushootseed language through public performances and collaborations with artists exploring themes of water, indigenous culture, and environmental activism.
