Composer Leigha Amick writes music to spark intellectual curiosity and express human experience. Her compositions have been performed by ensembles including the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, the Boulder Philharmonic, the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, the Indiana University New Music Ensemble, the Playground Ensemble, Mendelssohn Chorus of Philadelphia, St. Martin’s Voices, St. Martin’s Chamber Choir, NOTUS Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, and Ars Nova Singers. In recent summers, her work has been presented at the Cabrillo Festival, Copland House CULTIVATE, the New Jersey Symphony’s Edward T. Cone Composition Institute, and the Aspen Music Festival. Amick received her Master of Music degree in composition from the Curtis Institute of Music where she held the Jimmy Brent fellowship. This fall, she will begin study at Juilliard as a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow. This recital features Sun Strands for solo violin (duration 6’30”), The Memory of Machines for countertenor and electronics, (duration ~25’) and Rhiannon’s Condemnation, a one-act chamber opera (duration ~30’).
