Marita Dingus is an African-American mixed media sculptor born in Seattle in 1956 who creates powerful works from recycled and found objects. Her art explores themes of environmental sustainability, the African diaspora, and social justice, with pieces that transform discarded materials into thought-provoking sculptures. A recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship (1999) and the Irving and Yvonne Twining Humber Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement (2018), Dingus has exhibited internationally and her work is held in major collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
