Kenneth Callahan
Kenneth Callahan (1905-1986) was an American painter and muralist born in Spokane, Washington, who became one of the leading artists of the Pacific Northwest school. Largely self-taught, he is identified as one of the Northwest Mystics alongside Guy Anderson, Morris Graves, and Mark Tobey, known for expressive, vigorous brushwork depicting landscapes, dock workers, and cityscapes with a muted palette and strong interest in Asian aesthetics. He served as assistant director and curator at the Seattle Art Museum and was recognized early in his career, with work included in the first Whitney Biennial exhibition in 1933.Browse all performers
