Jafar Panahi
Jafar Panahi is an acclaimed Iranian filmmaker born in 1960, known for his neorealist cinema centered on the lives of women, children, and marginalized communities in contemporary Iran. His debut feature The White Balloon (1995) won the Caméra d'Or at Cannes, and he is one of only four directors to win the top prizes at Europe's three major film festivals. Despite facing censorship and imprisonment by Iranian authorities for his socially engaged work, Panahi has continued creating films that serve as critical portraits of Iranian society.Browse all performers
