Emily Carr (1871–1945) was a Canadian artist and writer who became a leading figure in Canadian modernism, on par with the Group of Seven. Known for her expressive paintings of Indigenous subjects, coastal forests, and the landscapes of British Columbia, she was an exceptionally late bloomer who achieved international recognition for her distinctive Post-Impressionist style and vivid literary works.
