Throwing Muses are an American alternative rock band formed in 1983 in Newport, Rhode Island by Kristin Hersh and her half-sister Tanya Donelly. Known for their shifting tempos, creative chord progressions, unorthodox song structures, and surreal lyrics, the band pioneered a distinctive sound blending post-punk, folk jangle, and rockabilly.
