Kamekichi Tokita
Kamekichi Tokita (1897-1948) was a Japanese American painter and diarist who immigrated to Seattle in 1919 and became a prominent figure in the Pacific Northwest art world of the 1930s. Known for his American realist style urban landscapes and bold compositional framing, he was described in 1930 as "the leader of the Japanese painters in Seattle." His detailed wartime diary and sketches from the Minidoka Relocation Center during World War II are recognized as important records of the Japanese American experience.Browse all performers
