Stephen Vitiello

Stephen Vitiello is an American visual and sound artist originally trained as a punk guitarist, influenced by video artist Nam June Paik whom he worked with after meeting in 1991. He creates experimental soundscapes and sound installations that transform atmospheric recordings into immersive works, with pieces held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Whitney Museum, and other major institutions. Based in Richmond, Virginia, he is a professor in the Kinetic Imaging department at Virginia Commonwealth University and has collaborated extensively with artists including Pauline Oliveros, Taylor Deupree, and Lawrence English.
