Michele Russo
Michele Russo (1909–2004) was an American modernist painter and a key figure in bringing abstract and expressionist art to the Pacific Northwest. Known for his bold use of color, simplified forms, and exploration of the human condition through figurative painting, Russo was influenced by German Expressionism and Mexican muralists. He taught at the Portland Museum Art School for over 25 years and was a tireless advocate for artists' rights, founding Artists Equity and the Portland Center for the Visual Arts.Browse all performers
