Pat Steir
Pat Steir (1938–2026) was an American painter and printmaker best known for her abstract dripped, splashed, and poured "Waterfall" paintings beginning in the 1980s, as well as her site-specific wall drawings. Her early work was associated with conceptual art and minimalism, and she challenged the legacy of Abstract Expressionism by merging chance and control in her compositions. A pioneering feminist artist and founding member of the Heresies journal, Steir was a major figure in contemporary art with work represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and the Tate Gallery.Browse all performers
