Renée Stout
Renée Stout (b. 1958, Junction City, KS) is an American mixed media artist and sculptor known for assemblage artworks exploring African American heritage, Hoodoo traditions, and spiritual belief systems. Originally trained as a photo-realist painter at Carnegie Mellon University, she moved to Washington, D.C. in 1985 and became the first American artist to exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art. Her work draws inspiration from the African diaspora, urban life, and mystical traditions, employing painting, sculpture, photography, and installation to encourage self-examination and spiritual exploration.Browse all performers
