Rachel Demy (b. 1982, San Diego, CA) is a fine art photographer and writer based in Seattle, Washington. Using text and imagery, she employs a non-linear approach to her work, which covers themes of trauma, addiction, and all manner of human experience considered difficult to look at directly. Her way of seeing is one that seeks to both center and elevate the peripheral—the less obvious and literal—while also transmuting pain into beauty. While drawn to that which resides in shadow, Demy is nothing if not a romantic. She finds inspiration in poetry, music, flowers (roses, specifically), and the mundane humor of daily life. Demy received her Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Portland in 2004. For the following 15 years, she worked for a concert promoter, a booking agent, and finally settled as a tour manager for rock bands, where she honed her skills as a portrait and documentary music photographer. Demy completed her Certificate in Fine Art Photography from Photographic Center Northwest in 2022, where she is currently adjunct faculty. Her first photography book, Between, Everywhere—documenting life on tour with Death Cab for Cutie—was released in December 2022 through Minor Matters, with a concurrent exhibition at Leica Bellevue. Demy is represented by Spectrum Fine Art (Seattle, WA) and had her first solo gallery exhibition, Revocable Living, in 2025.
