SABOR began in 2008, when childhood friends Christian Mena and Adelino “Lino” Oliveira decided to share the flavours they grew up with, and the generous hospitality that shaped them. Born in Chile and Portugal, Christian and Lino were both raised in Edmonton’s North End, surrounded by the food, music, and laughter of a tight-knit immigrant community. Christian’s path took him to the stage as a singer and touring Broadway performer. Lino’s took him to Portugal’s northern coast, where he cooked alongside the ocean and learned the old-world recipes of his mother, village women, and fishermen who brought in the freshest catch. Lucky for us, Edmonton was always home, and in 2008, the friends opened SABOR as a place to gather and extend a level of hospitality that can only be found someplace really special.
