Toyin Adekale
Singer/songwriter Toyin Adekale’s musical career began at the tender age of 15, with local band Instigators, under the guidance of the legendary father of sound systems, Fatman. This introduced Toyin to the love of backing vocals, lending her live backing vocal services to some of Jamaica’s finest legends on stage and in the studio. Though rooted in reggae music (specifically Roots and Lovers Rock), Toyin covered an array of genres, including Soul, Jazz, Pop, RnB, Gospel, and Afrobeat, which is evident in her own unique style. Toyin’s collaborations have also blended Reggae with Opera with Chinese Opera sensation, Jane Marie and Indian Bangra king Tubsy Dholki Walla. Toyin’s vocals are described as sultry, smooth, and lyrically her penmanship paints pictures through her relatable songs. Toyin is the founder and director for UK’s premier reggae gospel choir, Talithavoices Choir (UK and US branch), also partner and co-founder of the Lovers Rock Reunion concert series.Browse all performers
