The Ballard (Hiram M. Chittenden) Locks is a historic engineering marvel and Seattle's busiest lock system, connecting freshwater Lake Union and Lake Washington to the saltwater Puget Sound. The venue features a fish ladder for salmon migration, a world-class botanical garden, visitor center with educational exhibits, and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
