Melissa Carpenter is a deaf artist and former professional ballet dancer who performed with major American ballet companies including Pennsylvania Ballet and San Francisco Ballet for 13 years. After leaving professional dance at age 29, she pursued visual art and founded VOW ART, a family business based in Arlington, Massachusetts, where she creates and sells paintings.
New Dangerfield is a Black string band formed in 2023 featuring banjoist Tray Wellington, fiddler Jake Blount, multi-instrumentalist Kaia Kater, and bassist Nelson Williams. The band plays bluegrass and old-time music while centering the history and stories of Black musicians and abolitionists, named after Dangerfield Newby who fought at Harpers Ferry in 1859.
