classicalromantic classical
Modest Mussorgsky (1839–1881) was a Russian composer and one of The Five, a group of nationalist composers who pioneered a uniquely Russian musical identity. He is best known for his opera Boris Godunov, the orchestral tone poem Night on Bald Mountain, and the piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition, works inspired by Russian history, folklore, and national themes. An innovator of Romantic-era Russian music, Mussorgsky deliberately defied Western musical conventions to create a distinctive national style.Browse all performers
