Raquel García-Tomás is a composer specialising in interdisciplinary creation who completed her doctorate at the Royal College of Music in London. In 2020, she was awarded the National Music Prize by the Government of Spain, and more recently she received the 2024 National Culture Prize from the Government of Catalonia. She is the composer of the multi-award-winning operas 'Je suis narcissiste' and 'Alexina B.' Last season, Raquel was composer-in-residence with the Real Filharmonía de Galicia and featured composer at the Palau de la Música Catalana. She is currently working on her new opera. [25.10.2024] The Gran Teatre del Liceu honoured Raquel García Tomás with the Gold Medal for Composition, recognizing “her outstanding career in contemporary music.” The Liceu acknowledges “her contribution as an interdisciplinary and innovative creator whose unique compositional language is particularly reflected in the opera Alexina B., which premiered at this theatre and has received several awards.” [08.10.2024] Raquel García-Tomás’ artistic residency at the Palau de la Música Catalana has begun with the performance of her monodrama ‘Per precaució’, featuring soprano Dolors Aldea and harpist José Antonio Domené. This concert marks the start of her role as the featured composer in a season where her music will be performed in six different concerts, including three new works.
