Marius Petipa (1818–1910) was a French-Russian ballet dancer, pedagogue, and choreographer considered one of the most influential ballet masters in history. He spent nearly 60 years at the St. Petersburg Imperial Mariinsky Theatre, where he created over 50 original ballets including The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, and La Bayadère, establishing the foundations of classical Russian ballet.
Lev Ivanov (1834–1901) was a Russian ballet dancer, choreographer, and Second Balletmaster of the Imperial Ballet. He is most famous for choreographing Acts II and IV of Swan Lake (including the iconic Dance of the Little Swans), The Nutcracker, and Act II of Cinderella.
